No I haven't, but it does look like you can import VMware images.

I really like Linode for AstLinux in the cloud, but sadly there is no Linode 
locations in Australia (yet).

If you wouldn't mind, hows does the latency compare for you:

Linode - Asia Pacific (Tokyo)
ping -q -c10 speedtest.tokyo2.linode.com

Linode - Asia Pacific (Singapore)
ping -q -c10 speedtest.singapore.linode.com

AWS - Asia Pacific (Sydney)
ping -q -c10 dynamodb.ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com
