Mikephilbin.blogspot.com | Sunday, August 02, 2009 | This is the latest
in a regular feature where I choose, at random, from the alluring
designs out there in the experimental field of personal locomotion ...
and this one's really gorgeous.

MonoTracer is a unique 'cabin motorcycle' design that the company
Peraves claims is (compared to a normal sports car) "twice as much fun
for half the gas". Inside, there's air conditioning, two inline seats
and a top speed of 200kph or so. The drag co-efficient of this thing is
phenomenally low @ 0.18 (it'd be even sleaker if they got the rest of
those retractable wheels into the body, I bet).

Just got word back from Roger Riedener of Peraves, "Our latest baby is
the all-electric E-Tracer, where the second prototype has just won the
World championship for cabin motorcycles against all competing fuel
burning Ecomobiles and MonoTracers. Performance figures as of today
are: 0-60 in less than 4 seconds, overtaking 40-80 mph in less than 3
seconds, top speed over 150 mph, range at a constant highway speed of
75 mph at least 3 hours or 225 miles.

No other high performance electric vehicle is more energy efficient
than E-Tracer. The equivalent mileage is better than 300 miles per US
gallon at a constant speed of 50 mph (that's right, a vehicle with the
same room for 2 people and luggage as a Tesla Roadster and better
performance, even timed on a race track, gets over 300 MPG = 6kWh per
62 miles)."
