I saw this once on an older snapshot (granted, when I've got "large"
transfers at this point in time I just find a cat-5 cable). Just a
random question, I've seen "slowdowns" of sorts (short periods of time
when I can't transfer any data) if I don't lock the speed with iwconfig
wlan0 rate 18M, and I also recall having trouble with large file
transfers (which is why I just grab the cat5), does this problem go away
for you if you rate lock the card to some slower (18M works for me)
speed? I've just as a test transferred a HUGE file and whilst it's slow
I'm not seeing the problem you're describing as long as I have the
rate-lock in place, as soon as I remove it transfer speeds vary wildly,
but still not the problem you describe.

Kernel version is 2.6.26.5 with compat-wireless-2008-07-03.

I won't be able to actually help fix the problem, but it may bump
somebody else in the right direction.

I am going to say this: I'm highly impressed with the progress that
I've seen with the ath5k module.
