Hi;

I am using Fedora 17 with the latest kernel updates (3.4.3), and having a
significant problem with the ath9k driver. I have tried to subscribe to
the list but been unable to (the form is not submitting).

Back in older kernels I had no trouble with the atheros AR9285 card. Now,
after upgrading it is hardware blocked regardless of the position of the
hardware switch. rfkill unblock all has no effect (actually rfkill
block/unblock can set the soft blocked flag but has no effect on hard
blocking). Reading through forums this seems to be a fairly common problem
and the standard advice is to install Windows, then enable the wireless
card with the hardware switch, and then reinstall Linux. I don't really
want to have to do that and so I will be trying with ndiswrapper if I need
to. Any advice that is "switch operating systems twice" is a bit of a
non-starter for me so I figured I would bring this to your attention.

Is there an official workaround or fix for this sort of problem?

Best Wishes,
Chris Travers
