NEWSWIRE:
Accessible World's Tek Talk wishes to meet the needs of blind people who
are seeking resources to learn about and practice various religions in a
more meaningful and informed manner.
On June 27, Tek Talk will present a program discussing and
demonstrating Internet sites that help meet this need. We hope to address
other denominations and religions in later programs.
This program includes Mike Arrigo, who will give a presentation on the
bible Gateway site, which allows for reading many translations of the Bible
and for comparing many translations of specific passages. The site also
has other features and resources. It is a nondenominational Christian site.
Gene Asner will present information on 3 web sites, one a Catholic site and
two Jewish sites.
The Catholic site offers the Catholic version of the Bible, along with
footnotes from that version and also presents essays and study topics from
a Catholic perspective. . It should be of interest not only to Catholics
but also to nonCatholics who want to learn about Catholicism.
The two Jewish sites are related and, combined, fill a similar purpose to
the Catholic site for practicing Jews and nonJews who want to learn about
Judaism.
One site contains the Torah, the Five Books of Moses, which many Christians
know as the first five books of the Old Testament, in a Jewish translation.
The site also includes the Rashi commentary. Rashi is considered one of
the greatest commentators on the Torah. The other site contains essays and
provides resources on a large array of topics of interest to Jews and
nonJews. Topics range from questions such as what do Jews believe, to
topics related to worship, holidays and practices.
