There has been yet another update to Adobe's Flash player within the
past week. One of the improvements is there is now a way for Flash to
automatically check for updates and apply them.
It would have been nice if this feature was enabled by default, but it
is not. It is easy though to enable this auto update feature.
First, you will need to make sure you have the current version. To do
this, I like the installer from www.ninite.com
Download the installer for your flavor of flash. If you only have
Internet Explorer on your computer, you just need flash for that
browser. If you are like me and also have Firefox installed, you will
need both variations of flash. Just check the check box for both on the
ninite.com screen, go down to the "get Installer" button and download
the installer file.
Run the ninite installer, it will update flash for the flavors you selected.
After this process is done, close the ninite installer and go to your
control panel. There will be a new item called Flash Player. Press enter
on this item and you will be in a tab view. Simply right arrow to the
Advanced tab then press the tab key a few times. You will be in a
selection to have Flash notify you when an update is available, ignore
updates or the one I suggest, automatically.
When you are done with your selection, simply press escape. There is not
an ok button to click on to close this window.
Assuming Adobe does things correctly, Flash Player will update itself
whenever a new version is available and you won't have to do a thing,
except maybe restart your computer if you are asked to.
