I guess I missed the email where someone was inquiring about android sessions. However, I was looking through the agenda, and wondering why there are never android sessions. I have used the iPhone because it has been easy for me, but I know there benefits to the android, among many being not so many proprietary features. Every time I have had a chance to play with an android device, it was on exhibit somewhere very noisy, and I was unable to really concentrate on learning gestures. I'm not sure a session at Power Up would give me that opportunity either, but it would make people aware of what is and isn't accessible with an android, and what 3rd party apps are available that are either created for the blind, or that happen to be accessible.

I've already corresponded with Reggie, but just wanted to follow up on the list to clarify one of his statements. We have an excellent line-up of Presenters and sessions and exhibitors at Power Up to The Summit this year, with several sessions specifically geared toward blind and low vision topics! So in response to Reg's statement, "I do find it disappointing that there is not a full dedicated session on Android accessibility for blind and visually impaired users. Maybe they didn't feel they had anyone who was prepared to create such a session." Power Up has had a session on Android accessibility in the past because we thought it was a great idea and didn't want to just promote and provide training on iOS devices. However, only a handful of people attended that Android session. And not a single person has requested an Android accessibility session for two years, other than educators who want info on Chrome and Android, and so we have a session on that this year (smile). We also have in-house expertise as well as draw on national expertise for very well qualified Presenters. And by the way, Reggie is one of those Presenters this year (smile). Every year, we ask for feedback from Power Up attendees and we truly use this information for developing future sessions. If anyone has questions, please feel free to contact our office directly, thanks! It's a conference that deals with all kinds of assistive technology...not just blindness related, but devices, software, and other technology for all disabilities.
