I would call service and workspaces "containers", analogous
to folders. Collections would be analogous to mbox files.
(I forget who first made this analogy first, Thomas or Eric.)

I am with you (if we are understanding each other, and I think
we are.) This feels clean and familiar to me. Rob is making a
pretty clear demonstration that this is not how things are
being done in the wild, however
