Actually, I would go farther and say that an Atom feed for events should look something like CalAtom (http://robubu.com/CalAtom/CalAtom.html), which embeds iCalendar into Atom. If custom markup is used for everything, there is no way that users would be able to transfer these events between an Atom-enabled calendaring application and the custom application. - Brian
