Perhaps a compromise? Date Construct values MUST be valid xsd:dateTime
values and MUST also match the following regular expression:
[0-9]{8}T[0-9]{2}:[0-9]{2}:[0-9]{2}(\.[0-9]+)?(Z|[\+\-][0-9]{2}:[0-9]{2})
(Expressed for my own testing purposes in XML Schema pattern syntax.)
