That was my feeling, too. OpenSearch is so limited that it is not very interesting. That's too bad, because most of the hard design work was done nearly ten years ago at the STARTS project at Stanford. A couple of years ago, we put together a fairly general search web service. It is time to update that, so maybe I'll look at doing it on Atom.
