Well, after futzing around trying to upgrade ALSA, or downgrade my kernel (I did so much, I'm not even sure what I did), I did a second dist-upgrade, and now everything is working again.  Not sure if a new build was released, or what, but it seems good now.

I found some entries on emu10k in 1.0.10 prereleases, is this what you
read about? This is less likely to hit ATrpms (stable), as it may
break other people systems.
