Correction, I forgot to rebuild the initial ramdisk. After I executed "mkinitrd-ivtv -f --ivtvdev /boot/initrd-`uname -r`.img `uname -r`" I rebooted and got the same message at startup, but it was followed by a screenful of more text.
I then recieved the following message in /var/log/messages: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# dmesg |grep ivtv ivtv: ==================== START INIT IVTV ==================== ivtv: version 0.10.0 (tagged release) loading ivtv: Linux version: 2.6.19-1.2911.fc6 SMP mod_unload ivtv: In case of problems please include the debug info between ivtv: the START INIT IVTV and END INIT IVTV lines, along with ivtv: any module options, when mailing the ivtv-users mailinglist. ivtv0: Autodetected Hauppauge card (cx23415 based) ivtv0: unable to open firmware v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw (must be 376836 bytes) ivtv0: did you put the firmware in the hotplug firmware directory? ivtv0 warning: failed loading encoder firmware ivtv0 warning: Error -3 loading firmware ivtv0: Retry loading firmware ivtv0: unable to open firmware v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw (must be 376836 bytes) ivtv0: did you put the firmware in the hotplug firmware directory? ivtv0 warning: failed loading encoder firmware ivtv0 warning: Error -3 loading firmware ivtv0: Error initializing firmware ivtv0: Error -19 on initialization ivtv: ==================== END INIT IVTV ==================== [<ffffffff8812b5e9>] :ivtv:try_mailbox+0xd/0x3c Modules linked in: ivtv_fb(F)(U) ivtv(F)(U) i2c_algo_bit cx2341x(F)(U) videodev(F)(U) v4l1_compat(F)(U) saa7127(F)(U) tuner(F)(U) saa7115(F)(U) msp3400(F)(U) v4l2_common(F)(U) tveeprom(F)(U) i2c_core sata_sil24 ahci libata sd_mod scsi_mod ext3 jbd ehci_hcd ohci_hcd uhci_hcd RIP: 0010:[<ffffffff8812b5e9>] [<ffffffff8812b5e9>] :ivtv:try_mailbox+0xd/0x3c [<ffffffff8812b8fe>] :ivtv:ivtv_api_call+0x213/0x41e [<ffffffff8812bb23>] :ivtv:ivtv_api+0x1a/0x3f [<ffffffff8812bc5b>] :ivtv:ivtv_vapi_result+0x88/0x91 [<ffffffff881487c2>] :ivtv_fb:ivtvfb_init_card+0x7e/0x731 [<ffffffff8814f05c>] :ivtv_fb:init_module+0x5c/0xcc RIP [<ffffffff8812b5e9>] :ivtv:try_mailbox+0xd/0x3c I also get the following at the command line that I didn't get before: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# /sbin/rmmod ivtv ERROR: Module ivtv is in use by ivtv_fb [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# /sbin/rmmod ivtv_fb ERROR: Module ivtv_fb is in use Before I could "/sbin/rmmod ivtv" and then "/sbin/modprobe ivtv" and it would work, now I can't.
