If you ask yum to only update lirc-lib, it will only try to update that single package. So yum's behaviour is correct, you need to simply run "yum update". See also http://bugzilla.atrpms.net/show_bug.cgi?id=1145 for a similar usage error. Since it's both time revolving around using yum and lirc maybe you are following someone's instructions in a forum or web that are wrong?
