If yum/rpm hang in the transaction test, then there is nothing that modprobe etc can do, it is a pure rpm thing, and it is independent of what packages yum wanted to install (well, not quite, as if the rpmdb is broken and the package happen to live in the vicinity of the broken db part, then it look like being package specific). It looks like the rpmdb is locked by another process, or has been damaged. If you still have these issues, then you need to rebuild the rpmdb and hope for the best. Also make sure you run the latest yum, as there were some reports similar to yours on bugzilla.redhat.com that are supposed to be fixed by the yum update. -- Axel.Thimm at ATrpms.net
