i just checked.  i am also having the same problem.  it appeared when i
moved to mplayer-1.0-73_snap20100124.fc11.x86_64

i went back to mplayer-1.0-72_snap20091120.fc11.x86_64  and all is well
again.  so, i presume that the 20100124 snap is badly broken.
