Follow-up to this posting. By visiting
http://dl.atrpms.net/el5-x86_64/atrpms/stable/ I discovered that Axel is still
compiling the ALSA 1.0.20 version of the drivers. After removing the 1.0.23
package that yum defaulted to and manually installing the 1.0.20 version, the
USB sound device is now working.

Has anyone heard of problems with 1.0.23?
