I thought I would bring this thought here. I've been running MythTV on
Fedora almost since the beginning, but that means a 6-12 month upgrade

version. I can now wipe and redo my systems like a pro, for thsat reason.

I thought, since I know some people on list use CentOS, if anyone had
any thoughts about moving to CentOS from Fedora for MythTV
backends/frontends they might want to share.

I've been using CentOS to run several businesses since CentOS 3 and I've been running MythTV on CentOS since CentOS 4. The long upgrade cycle results in a more stable build target that has allowed me to do things like turn off all updating, other than Axel's MythTV packages, of my front end hosts. Once I get nvidia/X/ALSA/LIRC up and running, I just leave it alone. I only just last week updated my front ends from CentOS 5.4 to CentOS 5.5.

The hitch is that it seems that the MythTV developers are targeting more current graphical environments than the "upstream vendor" is willing to provide. Axel et al has been really great getting things to work but eventually, it all seems to fall apart.

In the period before CentOS 5 was released, I started to see more "It just ain't gonna happen" messages regarding MythTV support. It feels like this is happening again. To wit: qt4X support. Now it sounds like Axel has answers to this conundrum but it all feels very familiar.

Games are another area affected by strongly affected by the graphics environment. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the most current versions of all the various variants of MAME simply won't run on CentOS 5. Many of the *current* versions of the various native Linux games also simply won't run.

Two cent input complete. (And open to corrections and amplifications.)
