I'm trying to get an AppleTV to boot into Ubuntu 9.04 (server edition, if that matters). Here's what I've done:
* back up ATV hard drive * repartition and reformat * attach hard drive via USB to macbook pro, run Ubuntu 9.04 server install from macbook onto the USB drive * twiddle a few things * set eth0 to come up automatically via DHCP at startup (by editing / etc/network/interfaces) * add fbcon, vesafb, 8139too to initrd image, per [1] When I put the hard drive back into the AppleTV, it boots into the atv- bootloader busybox, then attempts to load the new kernel for Ubuntu. I see "kexec --load ..." and then "kexec jump to new kernel". Immediately after is: umount: /proc/mounts: no such file or directory (that line repeats once more) I've let the ATV sit for a while, hoping that I would notice a new device on my router, and perhaps it's just the framebuffer support that's wonky -- unfortunately, no such luck. If anyone could suggest some steps I might try, I would appreciate it a lot.
