I've got my refurb 40G atv working nearly perfectly running mythbuntu 9.04 and mythtv .22. Thanks to sdavilla for all the work, and to everyone else who contributed to make this relatively easy for a non- technical person to get running.
I have a set of HK Soundsticks v. 1 (the usb only version) in a box so I hooked them up. I've got the atv displaying on an older Apple Cinema Display 20" with the adc connector. I hooked it up with the dvi to adc converter and an hdmi to dvi adapter. The hdmi adapter was the only part I didn't have sitting around the house, so this project has been a packrat's dream. The dvi to adc converter also connects to the usb port on the atv to power the display usb ports. I hooked the Soundsticks to one and the keyboard to another. Then it was just a matter of trial and error until I found that setting the audio output device to /dev/dsp1 and the mixer device to / dev/mixer1 did the trick. I left mixer controls set to PCM. The Soundsticks showed up in the xfce mixer applications. I selected the controls I wanted, restarted, and everything worked. I am a total luddite and can't help with tech stuff, but maybe this will help someone who also has a set of the Soundsticks. I also had an old OFA 8910 in the spares box. I loaded the plex player device into a Harmony One that I use with another TV and then learned the keys directly into the 8910. This let me avoid all the work with the 6 button remote learning keys. The OFA is not ideal because the buttons are very small, but it was lying around doing nothing and it works fine. So my end result is $150 for the refurb atv, the sunk cost of the remote, display, adapter, and Soundsticks, and $4 for the hdmi/dvi adapter and I've got a nice HD TV with pretty good sound. I also spent $22 on a Broadcom 70012 which is installed and just sitting there in the atv, but I won't count that in the total cost just yet. Again, thanks to everyone involved in this project with a special thanks to sdavilla. -- To post to this group, send email to [email protected] For more options, visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/atv-bootloader?hl=en
