sound over HDMI is a no-go if you're using the nVidia drivers. Don't try
and fight it, the plight of sound over HDMI is well documented on these
lists :-)
As for optical, it works for me and I just did a clean install. Make
sure you've un-muted the outputs (use alsamixer from the command line)
as they come muted by default. Don't worry, once unmuted the system
should remember the settings, you won't have to do it over and over again.
