Sorry I didn't catch this until now. I'm in the keys on a mini vacay :-)

When I installed xbmc-svn, i found it wanted libcurl4 but it wasn't available from any of the default repositories. So it's crashing because of a missing library. Stable xbmc uses libcurl3, so it works. If you don't need svn, don't use it. Just add the xbmc-repo without the "-svn" part.

If you want the newest nVidia drivers, look around the net for the ppa for nvidia-vdpau ... that will have the 195 drivers.

xbmc's log file is at ~.xbmc/temp/xbmc.log .

I also asked about dmesg and /etc/X11/xorg.conf ? Work the problem. XBMC is not starting, so we find out why.
