Robert, An unmodified boot_parser couldn't be a source my problems, could it? Why wasn't this an issue for me? I vaguely remember following a modified set of instructions for installing on 10.04 rather than an older Ubuntu, but it seemed to be a process that people installing other flavors would follow.
