I have two weird issues with my 11.04 ubuntu server install that I can't figure out. The first makes debugging the second very difficult.
The first issue is video stops working once kexec boots ubuntu. New text stops appearing on the screen. all you see are the boot messages up to the point were it boots the linux image. I have tried blacklisting the nouveau, vgastate and vga16fb and updating the initramfs, but it doesn't fix it. I also tried adding the vga16fb blacklist option to the kernel boot command, but no dice. The really weird part about this is the display actually works for the first few boots after a fresh install, but then stops. I haven't changed or updated anything between the reboots, either. I'm using the 1.0 recovery image and it is connected to my tv with hdmi. I'm not running x, gdm, etc as this is supposed to be a headless box. This is a vanilla server install with just the ssh server installed. The other issue is even stranger. The atv will reboot at some point in the linux boot process if I don't have my gyration usb dongle plugged in. However I can't see where it dies because there are no messages being printed to the screen! :( If I boot into the patchstick shell without the dongle installed, it won't reboot. I haven't tried another usb keyboard because I don't actually have any. I need to bring one home from work tonight to try that out.
