\fileversion should do the trick, at least in the last version I
checked in. Basically, something like
\AtBeginDvi{\special{ps::(preview-latex \fileversion}%
\special{ps::magic_cookie_for_older_dvipng_versions}%
\special{ps::)pop}
should work for now.
