In the output of `describe-variable' you'll see the byte-code unless the expression is quoted: ,----[ <f1> v TeX-master RET ] | TeX-master is a variable defined in `tex.el'. | Its value is nil | | Automatically becomes buffer-local when set in any fashion. | | This variable is safe to use as a file local variable only if its value | satisfies the predicate `#[(x) [BYTE-CODE] [x (t nil shared dwim)] 2]'. | [...] `---- Richard advised to quote the lambda expression in this case.
