I have this too. It occurs also when emacs is started with only the
settings listed below, and an otherwise bare .emacs. Is this a mac
problem?

Emacs  : GNU Emacs 22.0.50.2 (powerpc-apple-darwin6.8, X toolkit, Xaw3d scroll
bars)
 of 2005-03-10 on ling-229-143.anu.edu.au
Package: AUCTeX 11.55

current state:
==============
(setq
 window-system 'x
 LaTeX-version "2e"
 TeX-style-path '("style/" "auto/"
"/usr/local/share/emacs/site-lisp/auctex/style/" "/usr/local/var/auctex/")
 TeX-auto-save t
 TeX-parse-self t
 TeX-master t
 )

Oh, and is it the intended behaviour of the list that replies are
directed to the OP rather than the list?
