Hey Matt, I promise I'm not wasting my time with emacs, really! I've been subscribed to the AUCTeX mailing list for ages. But thought that should know about this. However, I don't recommend that you waste your time with it! If you want to do emacs, let's do configure it together and quickly.
You can ignore the complexities of emacs and still use it as a worthy LaTeX editor, compiler, etc., and learn the more difficult bits more slowly. That's what Edgar does. I won't be offended if you save emacs for a rainy day, though :) . Ciao! Dan.
