I think so. At least I haven't heard of a restriction with respect to
content on the same line before a \begin{verbatim} statement. AFAIK
there is only a restriction with respect to \end{verbatim}. Please
correct me if I'm wrong.
For now I've checked a fix for font locking into CVS.
