They could also use interactive mode. In this case processing stops at
an error.

I will try to stop nagging after this post: "processing stops at an error" means that I only have an advantage if I press "E" to edit the offending text. This seems to work for me: I see the offending text with a little context. How (sorry, I have tried looking it up) can I get TeX to continue compiling when I am done editing? Am I restricted in navigation when using that "context buffer"? Can I switch on the "syntax highlighting" I have now come to appreciate in normal LaTeX mode?
