Now I have changed my .Xmodmap to :

 !
 ! Swap Caps_Lock and Control_L
 !
 remove Lock = Caps_Lock
 remove Control = Control_L
 ! Don't swap, forget it.
 !keysym Control_L = Caps_Lock
 keysym Caps_Lock = Control_L
 !add Lock = Caps_Lock
 add Control = Control_L

and everything is fine again.  It is strange that I for probably a
year have used C-S instead of C with so little problems.
