Better use --prefix instead of --with-emacs, as suggested in the
installation instructions. Then the value you provide will make sense.
You are right: I did not follow the instructions. Sorry about that.
However, much as I like to have the latest versions of all my software,
I will not start all over again. Having to download all those sources of
the image libraries is too time-consuming.
Well, I changed my mind. I download and installed the image libraries
and almost all went fine. The only problem was that I was unable to
locate two libraries which are, in principle, required so that the
others work: librle and glut. But, so far, Emacs did not complain.
Then I tried again to install AucTeX. There were some problems, but they
were all result of sloppiness (for instance, I wrote "--with-texmfdir"
instead of "--with-texmf-dir"). In the end, it worked.
Thanks for your help.
Best regards,
Jose Carlos Santos
