I should not have been so quick, although am not sure whether this
report belongs here or in the Emacs CVS ng. The problem is still there
when more attempts are made to latex the file (again, after 'emacs -Q'):
M-: (require 'tex-site)
C-x C-f ~/tmp/auctex_toolbar_bug.tex
C-x k RET ; the tool bar icons look fine
C-x C-f ~/tmp/auctex_toolbar_bug.tex ; tool bar icons visible
C-c C-c
C-g ; tool bar fine up to here
C-x k
C-x C-f ~/tmp/auctex_toolbar_bug.tex
C-c C-c ; here the tool bar icons disappear
C-g ; here the tool bar icons reappear, but the frame vertical
; size has become erratic (try 'C-c C-c C-g' a few times).
The *Scratch* buffer has lost its tool bar, and switching buffers shows
the erratic vertical frame size for the rest of the session. Any help
would be appreciated.
