No, it works just fine for me (see attached screenshot) using the
current git version of AUCTeX. Concering preview, the current git
version has no changes with respect to 11.87 (or 11.87.2 from ELPA), so
it should work there, too.
What version of AUCTeX are you using? In case it's older than 11.87,
could you please try upgrading? In case it already is 11.87, could you
tell us the contents of the output buffer (`C-c C-l' in the tex buffer
after generating the previews)?
I'm using the Debian Auctex 11.87-1 package from unstable. This is the
upstream package with some patches added, but mostly the patches look
quite harmless.

Honestly, I have no clue what's the source of the error, but preview
doesn't define or fiddle with \MYLATEXline, so the culprit is probably
in you LaTeX installation. (Googling shows that this macro comes from
the mylatex package which can be used to pre-generate format files for
speeding up later compilations...)
Ok. The LaTeX installation is just the default TeX Live 2012
installation that comes with Debian wheezy.
I'm attaching the contents of the output buffer (`C-c C-l' in the
tex buffer after generating the previews) as requested.
I think that auctex (or preview) has some debugging information you
can send in. I'll check.
