Re: positive discrimination?
hi,
Another positive discrimination is reduced cable, internet and phone packages. I believe that this could be somewhat justified since a blind person relies much more on technology than a sited person and has more to lose by stepping away from it. On points and quotas for university entrance, I would favor this in certain circomstances. For instance in turkey, the university entrance exams consist of two steps, the first step is taken by everyone wanting to attend university. The second step consists of 5 different exams. Students take the one that is needed for their department. From the results of these exams, a point is calculated. These exams are all in test format. sited students can buy test books to prepare for these exams. However the amount of accessible test materials available to the blind is significantly less compared to the sited. For this reason, most blind people are dependant on sited people to read them test questions. Also, for some exams in
the second step, test materials are totally non-existant for the blind. Under these circomstances, I believe that it is reasonable to say that blind people are at a major disadvantage when preparing for the exams. Also, I believe that under these circomstances an amount of extra points or reserved quotas is reasonable.
