Yeah, the keys should be telling you stuff like +5 strength or whatnot. You can also see what effects something's having by checking your manamon's stats. For instance, it might say "strength: 55, currently 60, and this means you have something giving you +5 strength.
Just caught the legendary electric type. Took seventeen giganets, but I couldn't induce any effects on it so I just had to get it under 10% health and pray.
As for help beating the fourth stadium:
Well, you've got an issue here. Aperishian, Flammerick and Nyomanja are the only three that are going to stand a chance unless you grind forever. Torto, I think, is water-poison, so it's weak to ground. Skirial might help, but it's kind of frail.
Now, I have never used Aperishian so I don't know its stats or moveset at that level. But Flammerick is dead to one Tunnel or Earthquake, Nyomanja might survive one but will be dead on the second.
My suggestion: either get hold of that grass gorilla in the jungle and train it up for awhile, or else level the hell out of Skirial and see what it learns. Since it's part flyling it will avoid earth attacks, but the problem is, if it's hit by a rock, it's dead, and I don't know if any of those mons have a rock move. You may have to rely on confusion/sleep/other ailments to win the day. I'm honestly not sure. Dustin hits hard and fast.
