Unrelated to the question, but figured I'd comment.
Instead of trying and excepting everything, then insisting the file doesn't exist, you might want a more straight forward method, such as os.path.isfile, alternatively just print error. Really small thing, but it could prevent a lot of pissed off users trying to remember if they used there medication that day.
