Re: Turn Based Story Telling

Lol lord Lundin, I got the idea when Shotgun started talking about shooting and deflecting with shields etc.
Having a monthly story isn't a bad idea either, though we'll see how this one goes down.
Btw beware, heavy background section coming.

"what on earth is going on?" you ask, feeling as though you've been launched into an episode of the twilight zone.
The young girl speaks first.

"We apologise for the abrupt manner of your transfer and your exposure to physical harm"
Then the father continues, his voice having exactly the same cadence and inflection as the child's though in a deeper register.

"We had programmed the system to locate a compatible human subject so that we could expand the family with a human member , however when you were proved to be outside of the expected paradigm for psycho/sexual testing, the system defaulted to extreme hazard quarrentine protocols"

Oh brilliant! you think to yourself, uncomfortably reminded of all the arguments you've had with petty burocrats like the local council over the fact that yes you were married, but no there was not! a Mrs. O'riley, just two Mr. O'rileys. Of all the aliens, or group minds or extra dimensional entities to be kidnapped by you had to be kidnapped by the one looking for a compatible human female. Maybe all those scifi bee movies from the fifties about some  crazy alien overlords with ridiculous hair styles, huge cloaks  and pointy black beerds coming to steel earth women were true after all.

"so let me get this straight" you begin, wincing slightly at your own unintentional pun.
"You are some sort of alien single mind or something and were looking for a human female to mmmmm, breed with? but got me instead so decided to use me as cannon fodder or something?"

All of the family look shocked at the very idea.
"No!" they exclaim in unison.

then the mother speaks, her voice kindly.
"We are indeed as you have deduced not from your world, and yes we were looking for a member of your species to join their consciousness with ours since we wished to learn of your planet. The experience would not have been unpleasant and certainly it was not our intention to force any sort of joining  a human who does not wish it"

Then the young man speaks, sunlight gleaming in his blonde hair.

"Since we do not have the technology to gather or test members of other races, we had to commission a salvage and reality brokerage firm, and it was they who began the quarentine measures"

the young girl speaks again.
"We were able to hack into their reality server and open a pathway to another part of their system where they run a dungeon scenario, and then recover you by posing as a player, however this will not work for long"

"what do you mean?"
You look around nervously, expecting to see more floating spheres or waves of fire rushing at you, wondering exactly how real the apparently earthlike landscape of the parkland and small pleasant house surrounding you actually is.

The father speaks, his voice suddenly grave.
"Since you do not fulfil the request for the the object we commissioned from the salvage company, your reality rights have reverted to them and they have made you part of their dungeon scenario perminantly. As a player we can keep you in our residence for a short time, a few hours at most, but when that time finishes your reality will revert to the standard dungeon makeup and you will become part of that makeup, effectively another mobile entity in the dungeon for players to gain experience from"

You remember back to the online games you've played, thinking of all the times you dispatched hoards of monsters with magic spells or laser weapons and shudder.
"so what your saying is, I'm not what you wanted so now this salvage and retrieval company want to make me some of piece in a game?"

The family all nod gravely.
"Your only possible way of escape is to attain the status of an independent agent that can move through the system and thus cross out of the dungeon scenario into the retrieval program"

You frown, kicking up the gravel with your foot.
"what do you mean an independent agent?"
The family all smile at you.

"One specialised mobile responsable for the direct destruction of players of the game"

The mother says.
In an oddly childish gesture the seven year old girl claps her hands and smiles up at you.

"You need to become, what I believe in your world is called a boss!"
