NVDA user here. Not taking anything away from Jaws, but with the zero price tag, this would give software developers the ability to freely download, and install the software and use it to develop a script or integrate accessibility with anything generated these days.
As far as performance; it seems that NVDA uses far less system resources than Jaws, although they behave identically in most cases, I just tend to find NVDA much more resource friendly.
