Dark, I am not sure what function you want from GPS. You could ask Siri "Where am I?", but beside from that, unless you want to use Apple Maps, you can't do too much with regard to GPS.
Francois, you can't use GPS apps on your watch because they don't have a specific version for the watch. It isn't like how you can run iPhone apps on an iPad. Because the screen of the watch is so much smaller than an iPhone screen, app developers need to actually make apps for the Watch.
I would actually think that using a watch in public is safer than using a phone. It is much harder to take someone's watch off their wrist than grabbing a phone out of their hand.
