It is important to also realize WordPress can be self hosted or hosted by Automattic themselves.
I'd checkout https://wordpress.org vs. https://wordpress.com so you understand the difference. The post editor in the latest version of WordPress can also be a bit annoying in Chrome and Firefox with NVDA, this small plugin takes care of it.

It's a little tough to wrap your head around at first sometimes, but it is accessible and it does work. WordPress self hosted is also very developer friendly, you can easily learn PHP and _javascript_ from extending your WordPress site.
