@Slj, the normal podcast is the main story, it goes in episodes like we're alive etc and is thus far halfway through season 2.
The special episodes are short background pieces which add information about goings on in the past or the background of some characters, there is even a christmas special which is a cross over with byron chronicles from darker projects, although its more a Byron story than a Leviathan one.
I'd personally recommend listening to the specials between seasons 1 and 2.
As for me, I bought the director's cut of season 2 and the special episodes and was more than happy with both, I can't wait to carry on the story, though as so much has happened in my life since I first heard these in 2014 I probably need to hear the hole lot again. I remember broad details of the plot and specific scenes, for example I even remember part set in Newcastle in the Uk which was nice (and described the town and the millenium bridge rather beautifully), I can't remember specifics or what the various characters were all up to exactly, still its definitely good enough with a big enough world and lots of background to warrent hearing again.
