Re: can we end clone conversations?

So, just to clarify, you believe, that the answer is, to ignore the problem of cloning by not talking about it?  WE write up some sort of rule that states we should not discuss cloning and if you discuss cloning you're banned?
The real problem here is cloning, not the conversations.  Conversations about cloning are the effect of the cause, the end result of the actual catalyst, the aftermath of the problem itself.  You can't get rid of people's desire to talk about something by writing up wordy rules and hoping they'll just up and follow them when clones are still being distributed.  Someone opened the box, unleashed the beast, and now it runs rampant through the audiogaming community, and it will until people decide not to show interest in it, not because someone imposes that idea on them.
Besides, there's a bigger problem here; we need to determine what exactly a clone is?  What are we going to use as the reference point?  Supposing we said anything produced with Ultrapower sourcecode is a clone, who actually, legally, owns the rights to this stuff?  Before Mason said it should be a bannable offense to use it to produce anything with the stuff it was up for grabs, entirely downloadable to anyone and everyone... I couldn't tell you why he eventually took issue with that, but there it is.  For the longest time there was no solid decision on what could or could not be done with it, then he wanted the moderation panel of ag net to police it for him as much as possible, so we did our best.  IN case you haven't noticed, this action hasn't, to this day, worked out, and it never will for two reasons:
1.  The stuff is not in the moderation panel's hands.  Even if it were, it would be impractical to expect them to comb through it, line by line, to see if anything sticks out in other suspected clone-like games to see if in fact they are clones.  To my knowledge, there are 2, possibly 3 people in the panel at present who actually know about development and who could make heads or tails of the stuff, but that doesn't make it any more practical, really.
2.  No matter how you slice and dice it, people want, to play, those clones!  They want to!  I played Ultrapower close to the beginning and didn't care much for it, but there are people who enjoy it!  The clones must be close enough to the original that they're likeable as is, or they're so different from the original that they're that much more likeable because of it.
If you want the clones to go away, the real solution is to simply release the stuff and let the script kitties be script kitties!  The more you try and clamp down the more people will wonder why and just keep stirring the controversy to the foreground.  Someone let pandora out of the box and wanted to reclaim pandora and the box and found it didn't work.  It's time to let go of pandora and the box, but whether that'll ever be done is beyond me, and since I can't force anyone to do it we'll just have to wait for the actual outcome.
