I finally had a chance to look in the sod 2.0 instructions so here is what David wrote:
You can press Control-W to produce a map of the rooms and passages you have explored in an area.  The map is written to a file in the Shades of Doom directory with the name "MAP" plus the area number and the file-type of "DAT".  For example, if you create a map on level one, it will most likely be found in c:\users\<Your account name>\documents\Shades of Doom 2.0\map1.dat".  The maps are in a format suitable to be sent to a Braille printer, or read on any other Braille output device. They still may be read in an editor like Notepad.  The G indicates walls, spaces indicate unexplored areas, and the X indicates where you were located when you produced the map.
