If this was a productive discussion that was actually going somewhere useful, then fine.
It was high-traffic earlier this morning, when the most objectionable thing that had happened was post 4 basically saying "Hey, if you're going, can I have your stuff?", which I thought was pretty disrespectful but wouldn't have even come close to needing a topic closure, temporary or otherwise.
No. The reason I'm considering it now is because this is manifestly not a productive discussion. Overall, there are some good points that have been made, and more good points might come as a result, but right in this moment, it's sort of a dumpster fire, and this is precisely not the sort of thing I think is appropriate, given how this topic began.
That's where the desire to temporarily close the thread came from. It's a respect/damage control thing. It has nothing to do with active discussion; we encourage active discussion so long as it's within the rules. It's a context thing, and the fact that this has run far, far afield of the original topic.
