Re: Announcement from Blastbay Studios

Oh, well. This is deeply saddening but expectable. Since the language never had a huge user community and universal application possibilities as general programming languages do, which could in turn inspire the creation of commercial tools like IDE's which would subsequently fuel and pay for its continued support and maintenance, this decision is only logical. I do respect it, and if someone doesn't, then it's their problem and ignorance, not yours. :-)

Like countless others said, I also have to express my endless gratitude for BGT. Without it, I don't think I would ever have gotten the hang of fundamental coding concepts and especially the motivation to code. It only sucks that my other hobbies, pursuits and duties delayed me so much that my still ongoing and unfinished BGT projects haven't seen the light of day up until now. They most certainly will, at some point, at least two or three of them are definitely well worth the effort in my opinion, even if the language is abandoned and will inevitably stop working on new builds of Windows 10 sooner or later. I'm not throwing at least 5 years of hard work which was being done in my spare time away into the trash. And I am already planning future 2.0 versions, anyway, which will be ported to another language that would allow for cross-platform compatibility.

But I just wanted to say BGT was my Bible, my deity, my prayers and my ultimate tool of enlightenment when it comes to programming. Basically, this tool made me fall in love with programming. So, even if my games will arrive only after their parent has already been buried, so to speak, they will at least be a kind of in memoriam homage to the engine. After all, I don't think we've seen truly original, innovative and unique games written in BGT that would not more or less derive from, or even directly clone, the basic principles of other games. The BGT scene over the last few years felt like the same game genre and style template being re-released over and over again, just with different names, developers, and some text strings. The only exceptions to this rule were perhaps Survive the Wild, at least in its initial stages before it turned into another FPS, more or less, some smaller games by Aprone (smaller, but with incredibly intriguing unique ideas), and Super Egg Hunt Plus. Yeah, think whatever you want about me, that game is original, unique and innovative cause it's not just another zombie apocalypse FPS.
