I personaly use this thing, it is an online tool which is not the best in terms of customisation, but it does all the converting itself.

Btw, if you want a more simple way of putting tones on your phone, just open itunes, press the iPhone button, go to the tones tab, press tab and just paste the ringtone, it will do the job.
