Re: Making an accessible collectible card game

An interesting challenge, given a cards size and the types of games played with them.  Braille when stacked with cards could potentially wear out if your stacking or shuffling them, which doesn't get into the possibility you might be able to tell an upcoming card as you feel the deck either, heh. I can think of a few ways that might work, the exception being you'd need a smart phone.

The first is [QR Codes], there are a number of free sites around where you can print out a QR code that links to a URL when you take a picture of it. So you could create a URL that links to a particular description of a card and print it out and stick it on a sleeve or the card itself. This way if you get a card you just take a picture of the QR code, nobody can tell what the QR code means, or you could have it on the inside incase they remember the pattern.

The other option that i've seen demo's of is [NFC tags], or Near Field Communications, a cousin of sorts of RFID tags. These can come as stickers or buttons that you can put on things, and you can read them with your phone. The difference is that they are much more straight forward for labeling, and can easily be renamed as well. So you can plant one of these stickers on a sleeve or the card itself and label it, and read it with your phone to get a description of it.

Another possible low-tech approach could be [scratch and sniff stickers], while not descriptive, you could try associating particular cards with particular smells.
