Let not yee profane the holy name of coffee with such demonic inventions as a K cup, for yay, is it not written, only in the pure and simple art of coffee making shalt thou experience the true grace of coffee goodness, and only within the Cafetière shalt thou find peace.

Seriously, I think this is a US vs Uk, thing, but coffee machines, much less those with prepacked sachets just haven't caught on over here. I tried them in the states, but myself, I've always found it better to know what sort of coffee your making and whether to make strong or weak, hence my use of the Cafetière, aka french press, which I'd always recommend.
for general bean types though, it depends upon your personal taste.
I enjoy the darker stuff, but to the heavily aromatic medium strength, rather than blow your head off espresso, for all I enjoy Italian Lavasa.
Guatemalan tends to be a favourite of mine, indeed Guatemalan Granada or rain forest are both fantastic if you can get them.
Failing that, there is always the good old old brown java for something strong, and the bystander of a good Columbian.
Also though, don't be afraid to experiment. I recently tried a fantastic indian blend called Tiger stripe, which was pretty nice for a medium, and had a fantastic aroma.
Again, part of this will also depend upon your preferences. Jamaican blue mountain is the one with the reputation, but to be honest, I just find it a bit too mild for my liking.
'I'm also categorically not! a fan of the heavily acidic blends such as some of the Ethiopian blends, or maybe it's just that I drink mine black, straight up with no sugar (though perhaps a tot of rum occasionally).
