Re: Last of us 2 blind accessibility announcement

Games are digital products and physical sales are rapidly declining. The data on it is compelling; in 2009 downloads accounted for 20% of sales, in 2018 it was 83%. It's probably pushing 90% now.

Back on topic though yep post 2 was deleted, it was someone talking about breaking NDAs which is not smart.

For the people asking about how much of the game will be covered, like will it be side quests etc, here's a statement from the co game director -

"A completely blind player can not only beat The Last of Us Part II, but can discover and explore all side content."

Obviously there's a difference between being technically able to do something and it being an equally enjoyable experience, and where it lands on that spectrum remains to be seen.. but I'm hopeful, as a AAA studio with that level of talent and money behind them working on blind accessibility from the start of development certainly has potential for some awesome stuff.

Stuff that other devs will be able to look at, learn from, and build upon.

So wether or not they manage to hit everything they aim to (which we'll know very soon) I think it is at least safe to say that it's be a huge leap forwards for blind accessibility in mainstream gaming.

I think it is safe for everyone here to be very excited about that and the potential it has for the wider industry, especially looking at how the mobility accessibility efforts in their last game (Uncharted 4) influenced so many other developers across the industry.
